Overview

Muthuramanan "Ramana" Rameswaran is an associate in the firm's Health Care practice. With a background in-house and practical experience within health care and pharmaceutical entities, Ramana advises a variety of clients, including hospitals and health systems, physician organizations, medical device suppliers and manufacturers, pharmacies and other entities within the health care field on regulatory, transactional and compliance-related matters.

Ramana counsels on a variety of matters, including those related to complex fraud and abuse, anti-kickback and Stark Law compliance; co-management and other practice management arrangements; consulting arrangements; physician arrangements, Health Information Technology-related matters; large-scale supply chain arrangements, including group purchasing organization (GPO) arrangements; the corporate practice of medicine doctrine; privacy; and 340B Drug Discount program compliance and contracting.

Prior to joining Katten, Ramana practiced health care law in both Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania law firms, where he focused on corporate and regulatory matters. He has also served as part of the in-house counsel team at Temple University Health System and special counsel for Avantor Performance Materials, a performance materials manufacturer for chemicals in the electronics and health sciences industry.

Ramana is currently a voting member of the Governing Council of the American Bar Association's Health Law Section as a Young Lawyer Representative. He is an active nationally registered emergency medical technician (EMT), an active certified emergency medical services instructor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and an Eagle Scout.

Before attending law school, Ramana attended Temple University School of Medicine and completed course work and clinical rotations towards an MD degree. He also has worked at Merck Sharpe & Dohme, making measles, mumps and rubella vaccine in a good manufacturing process environment.
