About Carlton A. Shannon

Carlton ("Jackie") Shannon focuses his practice on real estate and general commercial matters, including the review, negotiation and preparation of contracts, leases, conveyance documents, easements, financing documents and other commercial documentation.

A traditional real estate practitioner with a nontraditional perspective

Jackie's clients include a variety of parties involved in the real estate industry as well as other commercial clients involved in transactions with a real estate component. He works with clients of all sizes including real estate developers, buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants as well as both lenders and borrowers in secured loan transactions. Although most of his clients are regionally based or have property in North Carolina, Jackie frequently works with clients and on transactions with a national scope.

He works with lenders and borrowers in secured loan transactions and counsels clients in general commercial transactions. In addition, he advises servicers and sub-servicers of commercial mortgage loans, particularly with respect to loan defeasance transactions.

Prior to joining Katten, Jackie was a member of a smaller Charlotte firm with a sophisticated practice and a core of experienced lawyers which eventually merged into Katten. At that firm, he was exposed to a wide variety of clients and legal matters early in his career, which proved to be excellent experience in the law that has carried over into his practice at Katten.
