Timothy Lynes, head of Katten's Aviation practice, was quoted in a Law360 article regarding the potential for new safety and compliance risks with the expansion of the existing laptop ban from the current 10 airports in the Middle East and Africa to as many as 71 globally. This proposed expansion would potentially ban laptops and large electronics in carry-on luggage aboard U.S.-bound flights.
Just how likely is this ban to be formalized? If the threat level is there, Tim thinks it is very feasible. "If [the Trump administration] thinks there's a threat—and they think that's a laptop—they could make that determination, and that's it. They can't act in an arbitrary and capricious way.
