The American Lawyer Reports on Leadership Change at Katten

Firm News | May 23, 2016

The American Lawyer profiled Roger Furey and Vincent Sergi, following Katten's announcement that Roger will replace Vince as the firm's new chairman. Vince had great praise for Roger in the article, noting that he "knows the firm and its people very, very well" and "has all the attributes you would look for in a leader." Vince credited Roger with having the common touch, clear thinking and strategic outlook necessary to "understand the rapid change our profession is going through."

An Intellectual Property attorney who joined the firm in 2001, Roger highlighted how "[Katten] has been dynamic and innovative in how it manages its own people and interacts with clients, and it keeps a diversified group of practices." Based in the firm's Washington, DC office, Roger indicated that he'll spend significant time in Chicago. "Chicago has been the heart and soul of the firm since its inception and the heart of the firm operationally and otherwise."

The article notes Vince's new role as chairman emeritus, which will focus on strategic growth efforts, such as lateral hiring and further expansion of the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Financial Services, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Trusts and Estates practices. Vince took pride in Katten's ability to remain strong through several economic downturns, stating, "We have a well-balanced firm . . . and remain strong and debt-free. [That will help us] grow our platform, and help our clients solve their problems and gain a competitive advantage in whatever market they are working in."
