Partner Steven Solow Named Law360 MVP for Environmental Law

Firm News | December 6, 2013

Steven Solow, co-head of the Environmental practice and Washington, DC co-head of the White Collar Defense, Internal Investigations and Compliance practice, has been recognized by Law360 as a 2013 MVP for environmental law. Law360 MVPs are “legal top guns,” selected for their exemplary work on “critical litigation, mammoth deals and first-of-their-kind global matters” between October 2012 and October 2013.

Steve’s accomplishments were profiled in a special feature, published on December 6, 2013. The article discusses Steve’s representation of United Water Environmental Services Inc., one of the nation’s largest water service providers, which was named as a defendant in a 26-count indictment charging the company and two employees with engaging in a five-year criminal conspiracy.

As Mr. Solow states in the article, “this was not a case in which the government was alleging or could have proven any environmental harm” and he advised United Water to “stand its ground” and take the case to trial. Steve added that “he will generally encourage companies to go to trial when there are three factors present: a knowledge of innocence, a full awareness of the relevant law at play and an understanding of how jurors might react to the narrative of the case—though even with all three factors in place, settlement is still often the preferred option.”
