Partner Mark Farley Discusses Texas Fertilizer Plant Explosion on KPRC-TV

Firm News | May 6, 2013

Mark Farley, co-head of the Environmental practice and head of the Workplace Safety practice, appeared on Houston NBC affiliate KPRC on May 5, 2013, to discuss the recent fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas. The cause of the explosion that killed 14 and injured more than 200 is currently under investigation by numerous governmental agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the US Chemical Safety Board, which are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence to determine if the incident was intentional or accidental. Mr. Farley, who frequently represents companies in connection with investigations such as these, anticipates increased calls for oversight of these types of operations, saying, “I think the Chemical Safety Board is going to look at whether there should be spacing requirements, for example, in terms of where these facilities are located in towns such as these.”
