Maria I. Aguilar-Rocha

Maria I. Aguilar-Rocha concentrates her practice on complex litigation and dispute resolution with a focus in Environmental and Workplace Safety.

Maria previously worked at the Criminal Division of the US Department of Justice (DOJ), where she focused on Securities and Financial Fraud. During her time there, she handled highly complex, multijurisdictional government investigations and prosecutions. She worked closely with US Attorney's Offices and various federal agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Defense, the United States Postal Service, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. She has significant experience with large-scale discovery practice and corporate resolutions. She also has significant insights about federal government policies, regulations and priorities.

Maria has also worked for Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), one of the largest natural gas and electric utilities companies in the United States. She has advised on how to improve workplace safety and sustain it on a long-term basis and has assisted in obtaining favorable corporate settlements.

Maria also has substantial experience in criminal defense representation. She previously worked at the Alexandria Public Defender's Office and was a member of Georgetown Law's Criminal Justice Clinic, where she represented individuals in DC Superior Court and before the US Parole Commission. Maria has also taught law to students at the lowest-performing high school in the District of Columbia and has successfully prepared them for participation in a city-wide mock trial competition. Her pro bono work includes assisting with family law and immigration law matters and serving as a mentor.
