Real Estate partner Louise Carroll, Affordable Housing and Community Development Co-chair, was included on The 2023 Responsible 100 list by City & State, which honors "a selection of selfless New Yorkers serving the common good." The annual list identifies 100 leaders from hundreds of honorees nominated by family, friends and peers, spotlighting select individuals who "exemplify what it means to be socially responsible."

Louise, who advises developers on regulation, policy and affordable housing finance, values the opportunity to help others in need. "There are many housing programs, and as a result, many complex rules and regulations need to be harmonized to get housing built," she said. "The combination of helping to provide a home for those who need it most and the challenge of puzzling through the rules and regulations with the best and the brightest in the city to get it done is engaging and fun."

When asked how she defines "social responsibility" by City & State, Louise described it as actions that benefit one's community and "the world at large" to create an environment where others can succeed. In her line of work, that means juggling different interests from many stakeholders to achieve equitable outcomes. "My job is to help reconcile this interest so that all parties benefit and are protected before, during and after the transaction, including the developer, the resident, the community, and the city and state," she explained. To do so effectively, Louise tries to "avoid presumption," noting the importance of "listening and looking at people and things with curiosity and an open mind…to take in the right information and react appropriately."
