Firm News | June 14, 2016

David Michaels, PhD, MPH, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), addressed the Katten Safety Advisory Group (KSAG) on June 14 in Houston regarding reforms to Process Safety Management (PSM) Standards and other key OSHA priorities. KSAG, administered by Katten's Workplace Safety partner Mark Farley, is a safety issues and benchmarking forum comprised of more than 20 companies across multiple industries.

During his remarks, Dr. Michaels discussed the federal Worker Endangerment Initiative, which is a joint effort between the US Department of Justice and the US Department of Labor to prosecute crimes involving workplace health and safety violations. He also highlighted OSHA’s efforts to increase public transparency of employer injury and illness records. Dr. Michaels acknowledged that the agency has been "in regular contact" with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in connection with EPA’s efforts to revise the Clean Air Act's Risk Management Program.
