(NEW YORK) Katten Muchin Rosenman announced today that it has teamed with #GoSponsorHer, a movement to catalyze sponsorship and increase the number of women in leadership in large companies. The effort calls upon senior leaders to sponsor a high-potential woman in their network, and challenges others to do the same through social media by using the #GoSponsorHer hashtag.

"Katten is nationally recognized for its best practices in advancing and retaining women lawyers who often face barriers in the workplace," said Henry Bregstein, global co-chair of the firm's Financial Services practice. "By accepting the #GoSponsorHer challenge we aim to shine an even brighter spotlight on the importance of sponsorship, which offers women the actionable support and guidance vital to advance and succeed throughout their careers."

According to #GoSponsorHer, research shows that sponsorship is critical to professional advancement, and that women are 46 percent less likely to have a sponsor than men. #GoSponsorHer seeks to close the gap by motivating high-profile leaders to personally invest in a high-potential woman, and to serve as role models for their companies and their peers.

Katten Partner Allison C. Yacker, co-chair of the firm's New York Financial Services group, was sponsored by Bregstein throughout the early stages of her career. "Unlike a mentor, a sponsor takes personal accountability for the success of the attorney that he or she oversees. As a young lawyer, Henry's sponsorship helped me reach career goals; advance legal, client management and business development skills; and increase visibility within the firm and with clients.  Today, it is gratifying for me to continue to work with Henry on a collaborative basis as partners."
