David Halberstadter, Entertainment and Media Litigation partner and deputy general counsel for the firm's four California offices, and New York Litigation partner Jonathan Faust successfully secured the dismissal of a copyright lawsuit accusing Amblin Partners, DreamWorks II Development Co. and ABC Inc. of ripping off an unpublished screenplay to produce the motion picture The Light Between Oceans, which is based on the best-selling novel of the same title. A New York federal judge tossed the case out, stating that there were no substantial similarities in the plots, settings, characters, themes or concepts of plaintiff Joseph Nobile's screenplay and either the novel or the film.
