Joel Weiner Comments on Post-Oscars Copyright Lawsuits in Law360

Firm News | February 25, 2016

Entertainment and Media Partner Joel Weiner commented on the trend of Academy Award-winning films being targeted by copyright lawsuits. He stated, "It is in part that success and attention breeds lawsuits—the lure of fame, fortune and a boost to one's career—but it is also a rare chance at being part of Hollywood history if the claim is successful." Joel also noted, "Perhaps because of a perception there is more settlement value in a claim involving an Oscar-winning film, it may be easier for a plaintiff to find a contingency attorney willing to invest in the case." ("If You Win An Oscar, Expect A Copyright Suit," February 25, 2016)
