Gil Soffer Quoted on the Call for Clarity From the Supreme Court on Political Fundraising

Firm News | December 7, 2017

Gil Soffer, managing partner of Katten's Chicago office and national co-head of the White Collar, Investigations and Compliance practice, commented in an ABC7 Chicago TV news segment on an amici curiae brief filed by more than a dozen current and former lawmakers urging US Supreme Court review of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's appeal. At question is confusion in the lower courts regarding what constitutes illegal political fundraising. Gil stated, "So long as the law is vague, and so long as there's a split of opinion about what exactly it takes for there to be criminal action, a bribe, politicians of all kinds in all places will have criminal exposure."
