Financial Times Quotes Sanjay Mehta in Article on Tech Company Taxes

Firm News | February 26, 2018

Katten UK Tax partner Sanjay Mehta was quoted in the Financial Times on recent HM Treasury comments that it is exploring "fairly" taxing the UK revenue of multinational technology companies such as Google and Facebook. This follows comments made in the UK Autumn Budget 2017 suggesting that the UK would be pressing for global tax standards to be updated to reflect the value created by the active participation of users on digital platforms. It remains to be seen whether the Treasury will enact such reforms. Sanjay stated, "If this new approach were to be implemented so that revenues were taxed rather than profit, this could dramatically increase the UK's taxing base in the tech sector. However, it would position the UK as an outlier in terms of international taxing standards." ("Big Tech faces UK tax on revenues, not profits," February 22, 2018)
