Federal and State Law Enforcement Announce Creation of Bakken Organized Crime Strike Force

The Bakken is the biggest oil drilling region outside of Texas and the third biggest in the country, producing more than 1.2 million barrels a day. In recent years, the Bakken has enjoyed booming oil and gas operations, which has increased employment opportunities in the North Dakota and Montana region. As a result, the region's population and—not surprisingly—serious criminal activity has sharply increased. In an effort to combat the increase in criminal activity, U.S. Attorneys for the Districts of Montana and North Dakota, as well as the Attorney General for North Dakota, recently announced the creation of the Bakken Organized Crime Strike Force ("Strike Force"). The  Strike Force is a collaborative effort between Montana and North Dakota law enforcement, the U.S. Department of Justice, federal agencies, and tribal law enforcement to identify and dismantle organized crime in the Bakken, including human trafficking, drug and weapon trafficking, and white collar crimes...
