Litigation partner David Halberstadter has been named a 2018 Top Intellectual Property Lawyer by the Daily Journal, an award that recognizes California attorneys for their cutting-edge IP legal work. In an article announcing the recognition, the publication focused on his prosecution and litigation of cases for prominent entertainment companies, including his successful representation of Starz Entertainment Group LLC, CBS Television Studios, television series "Power" creator Courtney Kemp and executive producer Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson in two copyright infringement lawsuits. According to David, these cases, in which parties claim having work stolen through an associate close to a defendant, have not fared well recently in court. "Courts are saying more and more, 'That's just not enough.'" Today, as the demand for more and more content has grown with the proliferation of streaming services and movie remakes, clients are also increasingly asking David to look at chain of title and other pre-production issues.
