CSB Releases Contractor Safety Digest

Prepared for the Katten Safety Advisory Group
Advisory | July 12, 2018

During yesterday's public business meeting, the U.S. Chemical Safety Board ("CSB") released a Contractor Safety Digest titled, "The Importance of Contractor Selection and Oversight." Board Member Rick Engler explained that several of the agency's incident investigations have identified insufficient safety requirements for contractor selection and oversight as causal to these incidents. In addition to reviewing specific incidents, the publication outlines organizations and industry associations that develop guidelines and recommended practices for selecting and prequalifying contractors, including the Construction Users Roundtable ("CURT"), the American National Standards Institute ("ANSI"), and the American Industrial Hygiene Association ("AIHA").
