CSB Chair To Leave Agency

Prepared for the Katten Safety Advisory Group
Advisory | May 21, 2018

U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) Chairperson Vanessa Sutherland is expected to announce her departure from the agency. Chairperson Sutherland, who has led the agency since August 2015, has worked to rebuild the agency and restore stakeholder trust. Her departure before the end of her five-year term adds additional uncertainty to the future of an agency that President Trump’s administration has repeatedly attempted to defund. President Trump is responsible for nominating her successor, and it is unclear whether he will do so.
