Community Programs

Katten sponsors a variety of programs that enrich the community and in turn enrich the lives of our attorneys and staff. In particular, our partnerships with local schools help students from diverse backgrounds succeed academically and prepare them for continued success in the future. These initiatives include work-study programs for students, as well as mentorship and other volunteer opportunities for firm attorneys and staff. Through our partnership with Jose de Diego Community Academy, the firm's attorneys and staff engage in activities such as tutoring and reading programs, Lawyers in the Classroom programming, school supply drives and a holiday book drive. In 2013, our pro bono team developed a new program to provide legal counsel to the underprivileged parents of de Diego children. Katten attorneys and paralegals volunteer their time to the new program on a monthly basis.

       Chicago

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School serves low-income and minority youth on the Southwest Side of Chicago. Katten is part of the school’s innovative work-study program, which places students in office-based jobs with income earned disbursed directly to the school to defray tuition costs.

Katten regularly hosts a high school intern through the Chicago Summer Business Institute (CSBI) Program for gifted high school students from underprivileged backgrounds, sponsored by the City of Chicago. CSBI interns have high grades, are active in extracurricular activities and have plans for college and beyond. They are required to submit an application and undergo rigorous screening to be accepted into the program.
