Overview

Stanford A. Renas has extensive experience in the securitization of financial and hard assets in both domestic and cross-border transactions. He handles structured energy, commodity and carbon-related transactions including project finance, structured acquisition finance and accounting, tax and bankruptcy-driven transactions, as well as cash-flow and market-value collateralized loan obligations, collateralized fund obligations, credit-linked notes and structured derivatives trades.

Stan’s clients and colleagues say he “has a particularly good feel of underlying commercial issues; he is also a very good problem solver and his expertise in complex transactions adds great value” (Legal 500).

In recent years, Stan has devoted a significant part of his practice to domestic and foreign carbon credit trading and cap and trade transactions, participating in some of the largest transactions in this area. He frequently works with structured commodity products, including bullion and base metals, oil and gas, power and carbon credits, trading in the European and international markets as well as in the United States.

Additional areas of focus for Stan include finding innovative uses for structured finance techniques in energy, commodity and carbon trading businesses’ complex investment fund structures, and advising on structured investments by private investors and cross-border structured investments. His client work also involves insurance products, with an emphasis on alternative risk transfer solutions, including longevity trades, catastrophe bonds and Triple-X transactions.

Stan joined Katten in 2012 from Linklaters LLP.
