Gil Soffer, a partner in the White Collar Defense, Internal Investigations and Compliance Practice, appeared on FOX Chicago News on June 20, 2012, to discuss a potential link between the recent FBI arrest of Raghuveer Nayak on fraud charges and the investigation into U.S. Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. regarding the Rod Blagojevich scandal. A former campaign fundraiser for both politicians, Mr. Nayak owns several outpatient medical centers in Illinois and Indiana and has been accused of paying bribes and kickbacks to physicians for patient referrals and filing false federal income tax returns. "Your first instinct is to say, they're trying to squeeze him. They're trying to apply leverage to get information related to the Blagojevich case," Mr. Soffer said. "But, after giving it about three seconds thought, I don't think that's where it's going. I think in many ways this may be a wrap up to that investigation and they're closing out this loose end."
