Katten Attorney Lance Zinman Named to Crain's 40 Under 40 List

Firm News | December 3, 2012

(CHICAGO) Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP announced today that Financial Services partner Lance Zinman has been named to the Crain’s Chicago Business 40 Under 40 list, which each year honors 40 individuals under the age of 40 who are at the top of their respective industries in Chicago.

“This listing is a significant mark of distinction not only for Lance but for our law firm,” said Vincent A. F. Sergi, Katten’s national managing partner. “Lance is a talented partner who is dedicated to his clients, a leader within the firm and well respected by his peers. We congratulate him on this well-deserved honor.”

Zinman is the head of Katten’s Financial Services Practice in Chicago and has a broad range of experience within the corporate and financial regulatory fields. As a senior hedge fund attorney and the go-to attorney for the fast-moving world of proprietary trading firms, Zinman has made a name for himself by parlaying his expertise with the extraordinary surge in proprietary and high-frequency trading in Chicago and across the country. He helps clients navigate day-to-day transactional issues, litigation challenges and the increasingly stringent regulatory climate.

Crain’s describes Zinman as “A rare lawyer under 40 atop a big firm practice.” The publication also goes on to say, “Regulatory uncertainty...favors a lawyer like Mr. Zinman.”

“Lance possesses a unique combination of legal skills and is able to bundle them together across many vital areas to provide us with the kind of comprehensive, innovative thinking our company was built on,” said Donald R. Wilson, Jr., founder and chief executive officer at DRW Trading Group.

“Zinman is one of the few attorneys who effectively combines a deep understanding of corporate, transactional and regulatory law, and that essentially makes him a ‘one-stop shop’ for the hedge fund and proprietary trading market,” said Chuck Whitman, founder of Infinium Capital Management.

Zinman earned his JD, cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law and his BA, with high honors, in business administration – pre-law, from the Honors College of Michigan State University. He is a member of the Hedge Funds Care Global Board of Directors and its Midwest Committee of Hearts, an organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse.

Katten’s Financial Services Practice advises a broad range of participants in the financial services arena stretching from exchanges and clearinghouses to the world’s major intermediaries to dominant users of the markets, including hedge funds and proprietary trading firms. Katten attorneys are able to help clients navigate complex transactional, litigation and regulatory issues, and have held senior positions with regulatory agencies or have been in-house counsel at financial services firms.
