This article discusses international intellectual property initiatives, including two new pilot programs that will be used for work sharing and providing joint examination of the patent applications filed in Japan and South Korea. The member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization approved a 6 percent increase to its budget for the next two years, and there has been a large increase in the number of top-level domains (TLDs) due to an Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) gTTLD program launched in 2012. Additionally, the European Patent Office has extended agreements with Australia and Moldova.
