Lily Chinn and Karl Heisler will co-present "Legal Risks from Cyber-Threats in the Energy and Transportation Sectors" at the AFPM 2016 Q&A and Technology Forum on Tuesday, September 27 at 10:15 a.m. The presentation will provide insight into the current regulatory environment for cybersecurity in the energy and transportation sectors and will explore the need for increased federal regulation. Key topics will include:

  • current and prospective regulatory enforcement risks for corporations in the energy and transportation sectors;
  • current and prospective civil litigation risks for corporations in these sectors;
  • a survey of more "top-down" cybersecurity approaches pursued by other federal agencies, such as in the financial services and health care sectors; and
  • the viability of environmental and workplace safety approaches, such as "Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices" and the "General Duty Clause," as alternative options..
