Partner Michael Callahan will speak at a luncheon presentation on “New Joint Commission Standards Affecting Hospital/Physician Relations” on Tuesday, June 26. The goal of this luncheon is to highlight some of the main areas of change resulting from the Joint Commission’s revision of the Medical Staff Standards, and to discuss alternative methods of compliance. The subject areas to be covered include:

  • Update on MS.1.20—What must be included in the Medical Staff Bylaws and what is the amendatory process?
  • What changes must be made to implement the new evidence-based privilege standards in light of P4P and outcome determination expectations?
  • Do the new Medical Staff Standards mandate the use of "economic credentialing" standards when determining whether to appoint physicians to the Medical Staff? How should this Standard be implemented?
  • What do the new Leadership Standards now require when addressing the "disruptive physician" and what are the different ways that hospitals and medical staffs should consider when attempting to protect patient care interests and balance physician rights?
