TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT At Katten, we believe that the best attorneys are the ones who never stop learning. Our Summer Associate Program includes a variety of training and development opportunities that are essential at this stage in an attorney’s career. While we believe that every Summer Associate project is in itself a learning opportunity, we design certain programs specifically for Summer Associates, including legal writing, negotiation, drafting and trial skills workshops, as well as presentations introducing the firm’s different areas of practice. Because contact with clients is critical to understanding their goals and promotes the teamwork needed to achieve a favorable results, Summer Associates will have the opportunity to directly observe lawyers and interact with clients as part of their training experience. We also encourage—and expect—our Summer Associates to participate in all of the attorney training and development programs presented by the firm and our various departments. Because pro bono work is a valuable tool in developing the client service skills that are crucial to success in today’s legal market, Katten offers Summer Associates the opportunity to work on pro bono projects through the firm’s affiliations with local and national nonprofit legal services and other organizations.
