Ted S. Helwig is General Counsel to the firm and concentrates his practice in the areas of financial services litigation and white collar fraud investigations and litigation. He has extensive experience in representing clients in enforcement proceedings before government agencies, self-regulatory bodies and exchanges, and in a wide range of RICO, class action, and other complex litigation. Mr. Helwig also represents and counsels individuals and companies under grand jury investigation or indictment, and he has conducted a wide variety of internal investigations for corporate clients involving potential violations of federal laws and regulations, including matters relating to anti-kickback, anti-money laundering, false statement, and mail, wire, bank and investment fraud provisions.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Helwig served six years in the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, where he acquired extensive trial and appellate court experience and was responsible for cases involving complex loan transactions, financial, insurance and tax fraud, health care fraud, and commodities fraud. Mr. Helwig left the U.S. Attorney's Office as Deputy Chief of Criminal Receiving and Appellate Division to join Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.  Mr. Helwig has been listed in the 2008–2012 editions of The Best Lawyers in America as well as Illinois Super Lawyers (2005–2012).

Mr. Helwig graduated magna cum laude from North Park University in 1977 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Mathematics. In 1980, he received his Juris Doctor from Loyola University of Chicago's School of Law, where he was Executive Editor of the Loyola Law Journal. After law school, Mr. Helwig was law clerk to Judge John Powers Crowley and Judge Joel M. Flaum, of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Mr. Helwig is a member of the Board of Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago.
