With over thirty-five years of practice experience, Steven Shapiro concentrates his practice in the finance, banking and corporate areas. Mr. Shapiro serves as the firm’s senior relationship partner for various financial services and corporate clients. He has acted as senior counsel on a variety of complex finance and corporate transactional matters for national financial institutions and public and private companies.

Mr. Shapiro’s practice includes representation of corporations in a variety of industries, including banking and financial institutions, financial services companies, commercial finance companies, investment banking firms, and private equity investors and advisors, as well as diversified manufacturers and other companies and their parent companies. His experience has covered many types of finance, treasury and corporate transactions and matters. These include corporate matters involving capital raising (public and private debt and equity) and treasury and finance matters, Board of Directors, Audit Committee and corporate governance matters, structured finance and securitization transactions involving a wide variety of asset classes, secured and unsecured commercial loan and finance transactions, transactions involving the consolidation, acquisition and sale of both finance and non-finance companies and operating divisions, loan and lease portfolios and portfolios of other financial assets, and joint venture transactions among institutional companies. Mr. Shapiro has served as the principal outside general counsel for commercial bank holding companies and their respective banks and other subsidiaries.

Mr. Shapiro received his undergraduate business degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his J.D. degree with Highest Honors from the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and Florida. Mr. Shapiro has been a law school instructor for courses in contract drafting for commercial transactions. Mr. Shapiro is the past National Chairman of the firm’s Partner Review Committee, which reviews candidates for partnership in the firm.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Shapiro is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Greater Illinois Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Also, for many years Mr. Shapiro has served as a member of the Special Events Committee for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America focusing on corporate events and sponsorships for the Midwest Chapter.
