Sharyn M. Castle, an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, concentrates her practice on resolving intellectual property disputes, including litigation involving copyright, trademark, trade dress, patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and a variety of other unfair competition claims.
In addition to her litigation experience, Ms. Castle also provides counseling to businesses and individuals regarding the exploitation, registration, policing and enforcement of trademarks, logos, copyrights and domain names. Her work involves various industries, such as media, entertainment, fashion and apparel, telecommunications, sporting equipment, Internet, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, computer hardware and software technology, chemical processes, chemical compounds and electronic equipment.
Ms. Castle is a member of The Chicago Bar Association, where she serves as co-chair of the YLS Creative Arts Committee. Ms. Castle is also a member of the Justinian Society. She also regularly contributes to the trademark section of the treatise, Successful Partnering Between Inside and Outside Counsel, published by West Group.
Ms. Castle earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002, cum laude, from Lake Forest College, where she completed a dual major in Political Science and Communications, completed a minor in theater, and received merit-based scholarships. Ms. Castle obtained her Juris Doctor degree in 2005, cum laude, from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she also received merit-based scholarships. During law school, she served as an editor of the Chicago-Kent Law Review, and served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Michael M. Mihm of the United States District Court, Central District of Illinois. Upon graduation, Ms. Castle was awarded a Public Interest Law Initiative (“PILI”) Fellowship with Cabrini Green Legal Aid Clinic.
Ms. Castle has been admitted to the State Bar of Illinois (2005), the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (2005), and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (2009).
