S. Scott Morrison is Chair of the Washington, D.C., office’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice. He concentrates his practice on complex civil litigation matters, primarily in the areas of business law, real estate and construction. He has extensive trial and arbitration experience and has served as lead counsel on many complex cases. Mr. Morrison also has extensive appellate experience, successfully handling appeals at both the federal and state levels, including before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, the Virginia Supreme Court, the Maryland Court of Appeals, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and the Ohio Supreme Court. Mr. Morrison was named as one of The Best Lawyers in America (2008–2012), one of the Super Lawyers in D.C. (2007–2011), a Baltimore & Washington Top Attorney by the Washington Post (2011), a finalist for the Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America (2007, 2009 and 2010) and one of three “Top Washington Lawyer” finalists by the Washington Business Journal (2006).
In the business litigation arena, Mr. Morrison has served as lead counsel on numerous complex commercial cases, including real estate and land use disputes; partnership, joint venture and other formation disputes; fraud and civil RICO claims; commercial brokerage and tenant disputes; lender liability suits; misappropriation and non-compete/non-solicitation litigation; and false claims cases. He has also handled a variety of product liability, environmental and insurance law issues.
In the construction litigation arena, Mr. Morrison has served as lead counsel in three of the largest private construction project litigations in Washington. These include the Washington Harbour project located in Georgetown, the Market Square project located along Pennsylvania Avenue and the Gallery Place Project adjacent to the Verizon Center. He has also served as lead counsel in numerous other construction cases, representing owner/developers as well as general contractors and subcontractors.
Mr. Morrison is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland and before numerous federal courts and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the District of Columbia, Maryland and American Bar Associations (member, Trial Practice Committee of the Litigation Section).
Mr. Morrison earned his A.B. in 1976 and his J.D. in 1979 from Stanford University. While in law school, he served as a note editor of the Stanford Law Review.
