Qualifications and Career Profile

Robinson Markel concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate law, media, entertainment and internet law.

Mr. Markel's practice concentrates on corporate securities, mergers and acquisitions. He has also served as underwriter's counsel in public offerings and participated in private placements and a variety of joint ventures. He is regularly called upon to provide support in securities regulation, banking regulation and banking transactions. He also has experience with lease financing, project financing and securities broker-dealer organizations and regulation.  He has represented a number of Japanese companies in connection with acquisitions in the U.S., and is conversant in that language.

Associations and Committees

Mr. Markel serves on the Board of Directors of Valley National Bancorp (NYSE: VLY), the holding company for Valley National Bank. Valley is an $8 billion regional bank with more than 130 branches in the metropolitan New York/New Jersey area. Additionally, he serves as a judicial arbitrator for the Civil Court of the City of New York, Small Claims Part.

Mr. Markel is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York where he has been active on a variety of committees, including the Committee on the Civil Court of the City of New York, the Committee on Commissions, the Committee on Professional Responsibility, the Committee on Science and Law, the Special Committee on Requirements of the Courts, the Special Committee on Campaign Expenditures, the Special Committee on Communications Law and the Young Lawyers Committee.

Education

Mr. Markel received his undergraduate degree (B.S.E.E., 1956) from New York University and his law degree (J.D.,1962) from New York University School of Law, where he was Associate Editor of the New York University Law Review from 1961-62.
