Qualifications and Career Profile
Robert W. Gottlieb has over 40 years of extensive experience in major commercial matters of all kinds, handling the most difficult and significant cases for our clients. He has tried cases and argued appeals in federal and state courts in New York and elsewhere, as well as handled numerous arbitrations. He has been involved in cases covering a wide range of substantive areas involving financial services, securities, hedge funds, accounting, creditors’ rights, lender liability issues, factoring, breaches of contract, business torts, partnership, real estate and bankruptcy matters.
Mr. Gottlieb has also had extensive experience in defending both individuals and entities in regulatory proceedings before the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Due to Mr. Gottlieb’s extensive experience in commercial and business matters and his ability to strategize and problem solve, he frequently acts in conjunction with partners in other practice groups, advising clients in the pre-litigation stage and in contract negotiations, adding value from a litigator’s perspective.
Education
Mr. Gottlieb received his undergraduate degree cum laude (B.A., 1963) from Alfred University. He earned his law degree magna cum laude (LL.B., 1966) from Columbia University, where he was an Editor of The Columbia Law Review and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
