Bob Breisblatt is National Co-Head of the firm's Intellectual Property Practice and Co-Head of the Patent Litigation Practice. He concentrates his practice in intellectual property matters. An experienced trial attorney with extensive federal jury trial and appellate experience, Mr. Breisblatt has tried numerous intellectual property matters including patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright cases. A former Assistant U.S. Attorney, he has obtained two jury verdicts in excess of $5 million for clients, and has argued a number of appeals in the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Breisblatt has extensive experience in patent litigation matters involving the pharmaceutical industry. He was the lead trial and appellate attorney on two important patent cases in the pharmaceutical field:
  • Pfizer v. Apotex, 480 F.3d 1348 (Fed Cir. 2007). In this case, the patent on Pfizer’s blockbuster drug Norvasc was held invalid.
  • Daiichi Sankyo Co., LTD v. Apotex, 501 F. 3d. 1254. In this case, the patent on Daiichi’s antibiotic ear medication Ofloxacin was held invalid. After the appellate decision, Mr. Breisblatt recovered $5 million for Apotex for the wrongful injunction that had been entered after the trial.

Mr. Breisblatt has also worked with copier manufacturers, medical device companies, computer software companies and many others on their litigation needs.

Early in his career, Mr. Breisblatt served as a Lieutenant in the United States Army and then worked for the Florida Attorney General and the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare (now the Department of Health and Human Services). He has taught civil and criminal trial advocacy courses at the United States Attorney General's Advocacy Institute and also received a commendation from the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and a special achievement award from the Attorney General of the United States. Mr. Breisblatt has lectured on the changes in the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and has been an adjunct professor for trial practice at the Chicago-Kent College of Law. He has been named to Illinois Super Lawyers (2005–2006, 2008–2012) and recognized as a "Life Sciences Star" for his outstanding patent work in Euromoney's LMG Life Sciences 2012.

Mr. Breisblatt earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University in 1969 and his Juris Doctor from Duke University in 1972. He is admitted to practice in Illinois.
