Richard L. Farley is Head of the Charlotte Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice. He concentrates his practice in litigation and dispute resolution, including arbitration and appeals. Mr. Farley is accustomed to helping businesses and their owners in a wide variety of industries solve the problems, disputes and controversies that affect their businesses. His litigation experience includes mortgage and real estate fraud and loss mitigation; securities fraud; director and fiduciary liability; derivative and shareholder disputes; employment and non-competition covenants; trade secrets; trademark protection; insurance coverage; bad faith and extra-contractual liability; construction, zoning and restrictive covenants; motorsports sponsorship and contracts; general business and contractual litigation; and defense of traumatic personal injury claims.
Mr. Farley also provides regulatory advice and counseling to mortgage and mortgage insurance companies; a full range of services to the motorsports industry–including drivers, teams, sponsors and suppliers, and contract and license negotiation and drafting to a variety of industries.
Mr. Farley is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Courts for the Western, Middle and Eastern Districts of North Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Mr. Farley is a member of the Litigation, Construction and Tort and Insurance Sections of the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, and the Sports and Entertainment Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. He is a member of the North Carolina State Bar and the Mecklenburg County Bar.
Mr. Farley received his undergraduate degree (B.A., 1978), cum laude, from the University of South Carolina and his law degree (J.D., 1987), with honors, from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
