Renée M. Friedman is a partner in the law firm of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.

Ms. Friedman has devoted her professional career of over 30 years to the area of public finance. She has worked primarily on financings for hospitals, healthcare systems, municipal utilities and educational facilities, involving both tax-exempt and taxable issues. She regularly serves as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, bank counsel and borrower’s counsel in these financings.

Through her experience in debt finance she has worked with a variety of derivative products, including swaps and other interest rate hedging devices, sale of call rights and various investment agreements as both borrower’s and provider’s counsel.

Ms. Friedman regularly participates as a panelist or speaker at various seminars on public finance topics. In addition, she is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, has served as a board member of Women in Public Finance and as a member of the Advisory Board of the Journal of Law & Policy. She is currently a Trustee of the State Employees’ Retirement System of Illinois and serves on the Board of Directors of Illinois Maternal & Child Health Coalition. Formerly she served as counsel to the Gilead Referral and Outreach Center for The Medically Uninsured. Through her synagogue, she works with United Power for Action and Justice, an organization created to bring grass roots groups together around issues of social justice to effect reforms.

Ms. Friedman graduated from Northwestern University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and earned a law degree from Washington University School of Law in 1980. She was Editor-in-Chief of the Urban Law Review from 1979 to 1980.
