Rachel M. Vorbeck is a partner in the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice. She concentrates her practice in commercial litigation, intellectual property, and appellate advocacy.
Ms. Vorbeck has significant experience litigating a broad range of civil actions from inception through trial. She has served as lead counsel in cases involving common law and consumer fraud, breach of contract, products liability, employment discrimination, negligence, construction, land use and zoning, and eminent domain. Ms. Vorbeck has served as co-counsel in an equally broad range of commercial disputes, including patent and trademark infringement, consumer fraud, breach of contract, franchise disputes, and actions involving securities and accounting fraud.
Ms. Vorbeck also has significant appellate experience. She has prosecuted appeals and represented clients both as parties and acting as amicus curie before the United State Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the Federal Circuit, the Illinois Appellate Court, and the Colorado Supreme Court. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Vorbeck served as a staff attorney for more than three years at the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and has worked closely with virtually every active judge on the Court, substantially assisting in drafting decisions disposing of more than 70 appeals in criminal and civil cases. As a staff attorney at the Seventh Circuit, Ms. Vorbeck also served in the court's Motions Unit, where she submitted recommendations to three-judge panels for the disposition of hundreds of substantive motions in criminal and civil appeals, including but not limited to motions for bail, summary affirmance or reversal, preliminary injunctions, emergency stays of removal, petitions for writs of mandamus, petitions for permission to commence interlocutory appeal, certificates of appealability for habeas corpus petitions, and petitions for permission to appeal the grant or denial of class certification. Ms. Vorbeck also teaches Appellate Advocacy at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
Ms. Vorbeck earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1993 and her Juris Doctor from Northwestern University School of Law in 1996. She is admitted to the practice in Illinois and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.
