Raad K. Shawaf concentrates his practice in transactional real estate. Prior to joining Katten, Mr. Shawaf worked in both the private and public sectors, serving as general counsel to a real estate investment trust and as an officer to an international real estate corporation. He has also closed and investigated banks in federal receivership. Mr. Shawaf’s management background enables him to communicate effectively with his clients and to align their legal requirements with business goals.
Mr. Shawaf has significant experience in all real estate transactions, including secured and project finance, equity and debt investments, mortgage securitizations, loan workouts and foreclosures, purchase and sale, construction and development, joint ventures and leasing. In addition, he has developed corporate strategy for the disposition of real estate assets in expanding and contracting markets and managed multi-state portfolios of owned and leased facilities.
Mr. Shawaf earned his Juris Doctor from the UCLA School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in political economy from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He is admitted to practice in California.
