CHICAGOKatten Muchin Zavis Rosenman is pleased to announce that the Firm ranked #16 out of 159 law firms nationwide in The American Lawyer 2004 Summer Associates Survey. The listing is published in the November issue of The American Lawyer Student Edition.

"We are very pleased with our Firm’s ranking. The goal of our Summer Program is to give students a real sense of the Firm and what it’s like to be an associate here – the work, the opportunities, the people, and the atmosphere," said Elizabeth E. Cibula, Director of Attorney Recruiting and Development at the Firm. "That the program was a success for such a bright, diverse and creative group of students is a tremendous accomplishment. These are exactly the type of young attorneys we want to start their careers at Katten Muchin Zavis Rosenman," she added.

City-by-City, the Chicago office ranked 4th out of 22 firms and the New York office ranked 23rd out of 69 firms. Nationally, 81 percent of the Firm’s summer associates participated in the survey. With the scores on a 1-to-5 scale, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest, the Firm was ranked the highest on the following questions:

  • Opportunities for pro bono work: 5.00
  • Attorneys would be enjoyable to work with: 4.88
  • Inclination to accept a full-time associateship: 4.84
  • Overall rating as a place to work: 4.78
  • How much "real" work was assigned: 4.75

In the survey, the summers described the Firm as: "Entrepreneurial," "No rah-rah–demands only hard work and a good attitude," "A great fit for those who are confident in their talents and people skills," and "Highly professional." They also noted the amount of "real work" entrusted to them during the summer and the positive feedback they received, as well as the range of interesting personalities and the accessibility of the partners and associates.

This year's Summer Associates Survey drew responses from 4,913 interns at 182 firms, 159 of which qualified for the national rankings. Eligible summer associates are second- and third-year law students clerking at firms for at least three weeks during the summer. The average of nine job satisfaction questions is used to determine a firm's overall score on both charts. Scores are based on nine key areas relating to their internships, including the interest level of the work and how much of it was "real," the training and guidance, interactions with partners and full-time associates, how well the firm communicated its goals, how accurately it portrayed itself in interviews, how it rated overall as a place to work, and the respondents’ inclination to accept a job if one were offered. The respondents are also asked to rate the firm overall as a place to work. To view the complete listing, visit www.lzine.com.
