Partner Matthew Parrott Quoted in The New York Times Magazine Regarding Manhattan Skyscraper Litigation Matters
October 13, 2011
Matthew Parrott, a partner in the firm’s
Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice, was quoted in an article in
The New York Times Magazine regarding litigation matters revolving around Manhattan skyscraper One Madison Park. The partners in the project, Ira Shapiro and Marc Jacobs, secured construction loans totaling nearly $250 million in 2007. They also got an additional $60 million from other investors, including friends and families and neighbors in Rockland County. Eventually, they would have about $325 million. However, starting as far back as June 2008, Mr. Jacobs and Mr. Shapiro were asking everyone they could for money to cover cost overruns and pledging unsold units in the building as collateral for side loans without disclosing their activities to the bank. “There are unsecured loans that were taken on by the borrowers without disclosing it to the bank,” Mr. Parrott later testified in a hearing in New York state court, adding that Mr. Shapiro and his affiliates "don't have clean hands."
