Partner Janet Angstadt Authors Article in Capital Markets Law Journal on “Flash Crash”
January 2011
Janet Angstadt, a partner in the firm’s Financial Services Practice, authored an article in the Capital Markets Law Journal on the “Flash Crash” of May 6, 2010, when the Dow Jones index lost 5% of its value in less than five minutes. Though prices quickly recovered, this dramatic swing in stock prices will greatly influence how the Securities and Exchange Commission regulates equities trading in the future. The article summarizes the key assessments of the “Flash Crash Report,” jointly issued by the SEC and CFTC, examines the SEC’s initial responses and discusses possible regulatory initiatives it may propose in the future.
