Qualifications and Career Profile
Nina Lieberman is special counsel in the Financial Services Practice of the New York office. She joined Katten in 2009.
Ms. Lieberman has been actively involved in the loan trading market since 2000 and has broad experience in representing banks, collateral managers and hedge funds in all aspects of acquisition and disposition of bankruptcy claims and commercial bank debt in the secondary market. She has advised clients in connection with hundreds of bank loan and trade claim transactions including Hanley-Wood, Hostess, Lehman, LightSquared, Tribune, and many others.
In addition to her experience with documentation published by the Loan Syndications and Trading Association (LSTA) for the U.S. market, Ms. Lieberman is experienced with the secondary trading documentation published by the Loan Market Association (LMA) for the European market.
As an outgrowth of Ms. Lieberman’s secondary loan trading practice, she has assisted clients in pledging loan assets in connection with secured loan financings, with the analysis of credit agreements and security documents in connection with interest rate and commodities swaps, and with reviewing, preparing and negotiating confidentiality agreements and ISDA documentation.
Associations and Committees
As a member of the LSTA, Ms. Lieberman has been an active participant in several of its working groups and committees, and has been involved in the development of standard documentation for the trading markets and various initiatives involving transaction settlements.
Education and Bar Admissions
Ms. Lieberman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Columbia College, Columbia University, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was an executive editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. She is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
