Michael P. Murphy

Michael P. Murphy represents clients in all aspects of structured finance, with an emphasis on public finance, asset-backed finance, project finance and derivative products.

In his public finance practice, Mr. Murphy has represented underwriters, placement agents, issuers, a rating agency, financial institutions providing credit and liquidity facilities, government-sponsored enterprises, derivative product providers, and owners of facilities financed with tax-exempt bonds, including 501(c)(3) charitable organizations. He has represented such parties in financings involving multifamily housing, single-family housing, hospitals, industrial development, senior living facilities and public facilities. He has assisted clients in the establishment of national programs involving complex and unique structures.

In his project development and structured finance practice, Mr. Murphy has participated in transactions involving energy projects, interstate highway systems and seaports, and transactions secured by commercial and multifamily mortgages, conforming and non-conforming single-family mortgages, automobile receivables, home equity loans, manufactured housing loans, tax liens, consumer loans and tax-exempt bonds. The related securities have been sold as private placements, Regulation S offerings and 144A offerings, as well as public offerings of registered securities under the Securities Act of 1933. Mr. Murphy has extensive experience with subordination agreements, guarantees, letters of credit, insurance policies, government-sponsored guarantees and derivative products.

Mr. Murphy received his B.A. from Brown University and his J.D. from Fordham Law School, where he was an editor of the Fordham International Law Journal and a designee from the Dean’s List. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association, the National Association of Bond Attorneys and the New York State Bar Association, and is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and New York.
