Manotti Jenkins concentrates his practice in intellectual property disputes, counseling and licensing. Specifically, he focuses on patent litigation and counseling; copyright licensing, counseling and litigation; trade secrets litigation and counseling; and trademark litigation and counseling. He also practices in the areas of rights of publicity law and First Amendment/defamation law. Mr. Jenkins also litigates large, medium-sized and smaller commercial disputes.
Mr. Jenkins is a first chair litigator. In addition to serving as lead counsel in several trials, contested hearings and settlement proceedings, he has managed large multimillion-dollar cases as well as medium-sized and smaller cases. Mr. Jenkins is a skilled trial attorney who can and will navigate a case through the vagaries of the courtroom process. In addition, he is an experienced case manager who learns the details of a case from its inception to bring about the best result for the client short of trial.
Mr. Jenkins is prior co-chair of the Minority Trial Lawyers Committee of the American Bar Association Litigation Section. He is also a member of the Federal Circuit Bar Association and the Trial Bar of the Northern District of Illinois. Mr. Jenkins recently authored a chapter in the book Inside the Minds: Patent Litigation and Dispute Resolution, published by Aspatore Books. The book is written for clients, and is described in the sub-text on the cover as "Leading Lawyers on Understanding Key Components of A Case, Evaluating Settlement Opportunities, and Preparing for Trial."
Mr. Jenkins has been listed in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business for two consecutive years (2008 and 2009). He was selected as a 2010 Illinois Super Lawyer, an honor bestowed on only 5% of the lawyers in the State annually. Mr. Jenkins recently appeared on the Chicago-based radio program, "Emilie & Friends" (WVON-1690 AM), to provide the legal analysis of intellectual property and First Amendment issues concerning the commercial use of the name, image and likeness of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Mr. Jenkins earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Indiana University School of Law in 1996 and his Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1991. He is licensed to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit; U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit; and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (including the Trial Bar).
