Qualifications and Career Profile

Mr. Barasch was a member of the firm of Rosenman & Colin LLP from February 1968 through January 2000. He founded the firm’s Trusts and Estates Department and served as its Chairman until 1995.

Mr. Barasch concentrates his practice in estates and trusts law. He has practiced for more than forty-five years, handling a broad range of matters including estate and tax planning, the administration of estates and trusts, will contests and other contested Surrogate’s Court and tax proceedings.

Mr. Barasch has written on estate tax issues and is listed as a trusts and estates specialist in The Best Lawyers of America and as one of the 45 Best Trusts and Estates Lawyers in the United States in Town and Country’s 1998 "Definitive Guide to Estate Planning." He was listed as a New York Super Lawyer in New York Super LawyersManhattan Edition from 2006 to 2009.

Mr. Barasch served with the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.

Associations and Committees

Mr. Barasch is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and served as Chairman of its Committee on Trusts, Estates and Surrogate's Courts and a member of its Council on Judicial Administration from 2000 to 2003. He is an Academician of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law and a former member of its Executive Council, a Fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel, and a member of the New York State Bar Association and its Trusts and Estates Section.

Education

Mr. Barasch earned his undergraduate degree with distinction (B.S., 1951) from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Economics and his law degree (LL.B., 1954) from Yale University Law School.
