Kenneth M. Jacobson concentrates his practice on commercial real estate finance and investment for real estate investment trusts, real estate investment funds, commercial banks, insurance companies, finance companies and other lenders, and developers and other borrowers.

  • Mezzanine financing for national multifamily portfolio.
  • Formation and capitalization of, and lending by, mezzanine lender venture.
  • Subscription financing line of credit for investment fund.
  • Mortgage financing for Southeastern U.S. hotel and condominium resort community development.
  • Mortgage financing of national credit tenant lease portfolio
  • Sale of improvements and ground lease of land pertaining to office building in U.S. Middle-Atlantic Region.
  • Purchase of approximately 900,000 acres of timberland and related debt and equity capitalization and subsequent disposition of the acquired property.
  • Warehouse line of credit to “Brownfields” lender.
  • Repurchase financing facility for U.S. real estate mortgage lender. 
  • Warehouse line of credit to lender to U.S. automobile dealerships.
  • Purchase of B Notes pertaining to urban condominium conversion loans.
  • Line of credit to private equity investment fund of funds.
  • Formation and capitalization of venture owning Midwestern U.S. office building.
  • Land acquisition and pre-entitlement financing for Midwest luxury hotel project.
  • Mortgage financing for national limited service hotel portfolio.
  • Warehouse lines of credit for real estate investment trust.
  • Mortgage financing for hotel and casino.
  • Mortgage loan restructuring for Midwestern hotel.
  • Disposition of hotel portfolio. 
  • Mezzanine financing for urban cooperative apartment conversion project.
  • Acquisition of commercial real estate assets of, and real estate lending business from, U.S. commercial real estate lender.
  • Corporate mezzanine financing of U.S. and cross-border retail company.

Mr. Jacobson’s industry activities include his service as: chairperson of the Legal Opinions in Real Estate Transactions Committee of the Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Section of the American Bar Association; chairperson of the Investment Entities Committee of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers; treasurer and member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers; member of the Steering Committee of the Working Group on Legal Opinions of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association; and president of the Chicago Mortgage Attorneys Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and a member of the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the Chicago Mortgage Attorneys Association.

Mr. Jacobson is co-author of Illinois Limited Liability Company Forms and Practice Manual and a frequent speaker, panelist and author on a variety of topics, including portfolio transactions and deeds in lieu of foreclosure, formation, capitalization and governance of limited liability entities, opinions of counsel, mortgage finance and restrictions and easement agreements. He has been listed in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business (2006–2007), Illinois Super Lawyers (2006–2012) and in the 2008–2012 editions of The Best Lawyers in America.

Mr. Jacobson graduated, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Illinois in 1976 and received his Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School in 1979.
