Katten's Pro Bono Program Featured in Chicago Lawyer
September 2011
Katten's
pro bono program was featured in the article "Large firms take strategic approach to
pro bono," which appears in the September 2011 issue of
Chicago Lawyer. Katten partner and Director of
Pro Bono Services Jonathan Baum, partner David Benson and associate Chad Doobay all were interviewed for the article, which examines how large law firms currently are working to increase
pro bono participation. One of the ways Katten encourages its attorneys to get involved in
pro bono is allowing associates to count at least 100 hours of
pro bono work toward billable-hour requirements. Mr. Baum says, "Our theory is that if you make
pro bono easy enough and attractive enough, the natural impulse of folks to do
pro bono work will generate a sufficient amount of
pro bono activity."
