Katten’s James W. Hutchison Named to Board of Directors of Center for Disability & Elder Law

CHICAGO – Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is pleased to announce that James W. Hutchison, a partner in the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice, has been named to the Board of Directors of the Center for Disability & Elder Law (CDEL).  This appointment follows his 11 years of work as a panel attorney for the organization.  Mr. Hutchison received the CDEL’s “Pro Bono Attorney of the Year” award in 1999 for his extensive work providing free legal services to Chicago’s impoverished seniors and individuals with special needs.

Founded in 1984 by the Young Lawyers Section of the Chicago Bar Association, CDEL is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the legal rights of low-income persons with disabilities and senior citizens in Cook County. CDEL volunteer attorneys represent eligible individuals with a broad range of civil legal matters, including: landlord/tenant matters; guardianship issues; consumer fraud; special education; financial elder abuse; wills and probate; powers of attorney; bankruptcy and collections; real estate and mortgage foreclosure; government benefits; and ADA discrimination.

Mr. Hutchison’s practice at Katten is focused on commercial litigation, including the resolution of disputes involving the interpretation and enforcement of contracts, often in complex contexts involving numerous parties and sensitive commercial relationships. He has significant experience in litigation involving real estate, health care, and mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. Hutchison earned his B.A. from Northwestern University and his J.D. from New York University School of Law.
