(LOS ANGELES) Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is pleased to announce that Gail Migdal Title, Chair of the firm’s Entertainment and Media Litigation Practice and a partner in the Los Angeles office, has been installed as Chairperson of Public Counsel Law Center for 2012.

“Katten has always supported pro bono services as a way to help those who do not have access to legal assistance in communities nationwide,” said Vincent A. F. Sergi, Katten’s National Managing Partner. “As the new Chairperson of the Public Counsel Law Center, Gail will continue our firm’s ongoing commitment.”

Ms. Title, who takes over the post from outgoing Chairperson Matthew Heartney of Arnold & Porter LLP, assumes the role of Chairperson after serving as Vice Chairperson of Public Counsel for 2011, and after more than 10 years of serving on the Public Counsel Board.

Public Counsel is the nation’s largest pro bono law firm, with a 40-year track record of fighting for the rights of children and youth, persecuted immigrants, military veterans and nonprofit organizations and small businesses. Last year Public Counsel’s staff of nearly 100 and volunteer force of more than 5,000 attorneys, students and other experts assisted more than 32,000 clients in need.

Public Counsel combines impact litigation and direct legal services to protect the legal rights of disadvantaged children; represent immigrants who have been the victims of torture, persecution, domestic violence, trafficking and other crimes; foster economic justice by providing individuals and institutions in underserved communities with access to quality legal representation; and advocate on behalf of veterans to uphold our nation's promise to them and their families.

“Every year Public Counsel helps thousands of people make meaningful, positive changes in their lives,” said Ms. Title. “By assisting those among us struggling with poverty or injustice, Public Counsel and its volunteers make our entire community stronger. They are truly a force for good, and I am deeply honored to serve as Public Counsel’s Chairperson.

In addition to serving as Chair of Katten’s Entertainment and Media Litigation Practice, from 1997 to 2011 Ms. Title was the Managing Partner of Katten’s Los Angeles office, becoming one of the first female office heads of a major law firm. Her practice focuses on intellectual property, unfair competition, contract and business torts and includes all aspects of the entertainment industry, from motion picture and television development, finance and production, to distribution in all media worldwide, and the litany of issues that arise therein.

Ms. Title is an arbitrator and mediator with the American Arbitration Association. Since 2005, she also has been a mediator for the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, Business/Commercial Litigation and Copyright/Trademark, and with the Los Angeles Superior Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Program. She is Vice Chair of the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel for the Central District of California, and also has served as a Lawyer Representative to the 9th Circuit Judicial Conference.

In addition to her new role with Public Counsel, Ms. Title is Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles Copyright Society, and serves on the boards of the Constitutional Rights Foundation, the Berkeley School of Law Alumni Association and the Ninth Circuit Historical Society.
