Katten’s Gail Migdal Title and Helen B. Kim Named Among California’s Top Women Litigators
May 13, 2010
LOS ANGELES – Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is pleased to announce that two of its Los Angeles-based attorneys, Gail Migdal Title, chair of the firm’s national Entertainment and Media Litigation Practice and managing partner of the Los Angeles office, and Helen B. Kim, a partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution and the Securities Litigation Practices, have been named to the
Daily Journal’s list of “Top 100 Women Litigators.” This is the fifth consecutive year that Ms. Title has appeared on the list and the third year for Ms. Kim. The complete list was published in a special supplement to the
Daily Journal on May 12.
The
Daily Journal selects attorneys for inclusion based on a number of criteria, including each nominee’s major litigation victories in the last year, demonstrated leadership within their firm, involvement in the legal community, endorsements from their peers and overall career accomplishments.
Gail Migdal Title
A high-profile entertainment industry client recently described Ms. Title as “one of the finest entertainment litigators in the nation,” based on her “strong, aggressive advocacy, razor sharp intellect and innate sensitivity to the business needs of the client.” These accomplishments are supported by Ms. Title’s record of success. In the last year, she has obtained outright dismissals of a number of intellectual property and contract cases brought against her clients on motions for summary judgment. Her practice covers a broad range of legal and business issues that arise in the entertainment industry, including intellectual property, unfair competition, and contract and business torts.
Ms. Title is also actively engaged in public service, serving on the Executive Committee and board of the Public Counsel Law Center, the largest
pro bono public interest law firm in the world, and as co-chair of the organization’s William O. Douglas Dinner. She also sits on the board of directors of the Constitutional Rights Foundation and the Boalt Hall School of Law Alumni Association.
Helen B. Kim
Ms. Kim represents public and private companies and their directors, officers and principal shareholders in complex commercial litigation, including the defense of securities and other class actions, shareholder derivative suits and regulatory investigations. She appears on behalf of her clients in state and federal courts, both in New York and in California.
Over the last few years, Ms. Kim has been heavily involved in the representation of former officers of Refco Inc., formerly the largest commodities broker in the United States, in connection with the company’s high-profile securities class action and related insurance litigations. Ms. Kim obtained dismissal of her client from two ongoing class actions and won preliminary approval from the court for a settlement that would extricate her client from a third. She also took the lead in successful litigation that required two insurance companies to advance defense costs and fees for the benefit of her clients and numerous other parties.
Ms. Kim is also recognized as a leader in the Los Angeles legal community. She chairs the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Large Law Firm Committee and is a member of its Judicial Appointments Committee. Ms. Kim is also active in organizations that promote diversity. She is president of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles and former president of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. She serves on the ABA’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession and is a member of Katten’s Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity.
Katten’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice has nearly 200 attorneys across the country dedicated to evaluating, fighting and resolving its clients’ most difficult problems. The firm’s dedication and drive to fully understand its clients’ business and litigation objectives sets its litigators apart from the competition. This understanding makes Katten’s litigators better business partners in the long run, and better advocates for matters on the immediate horizon.
