WASHINGTON – Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is pleased to announce that David S. Hoffmann has joined the firm’s Washington office as a partner in the Environmental Litigation and White Collar Criminal and Civil Litigation and Compliance Practices. Prior to joining Katten, Mr. Hoffmann was senior counsel for environmental, health and safety in the Washington office of INVISTA, a subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc. and one of the world’s largest manufacturers of polymers and fibers.

Mr. Hoffmann brings more than 25 years of experience in environmental, health and safety (EHS) matters, concentrating in Clean Air Act compliance and climate change initiatives. His background includes providing EHS compliance support for facilities in the United States, Mexico and South America, negotiating enforcement cases and administrative consent orders, litigating contamination claims, and regulatory review and analysis of air, waste and wastewater issues.

Before joining INVISTA in 2005, Mr. Hoffmann was a partner with McMahon DeGulis LLP in Cleveland. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona, his graduate degree from Kent State University, and his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University.

Steve Solow, who chairs Katten’s Environmental Litigation Practice, said, “David’s depth of experience as an environmental attorney, and his extensive in-house experience, make him a great addition to our team.”

Mr. Hoffmann’s arrival continues the steady flow of top-level legal talent into Katten’s Washington environmental and white collar practices. Nine white collar and environmental litigation attorneys have joined Katten’s Washington office in the past 10 months. This includes Mr. Solow, former chief of the Environmental Crimes Section at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), and Whitney C. Ellerman, former assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, in September 2009, as well as Joshua G. Berman and Glen Donath, former assistant U.S. attorneys for the Southern District of New York and the District of Columbia, respectively, in January 2010.

Katten’s Environmental Litigation Practice offers streamlined and cost-effective case management. The attorneys in this group help clients mitigate the environmental and financial risks associated with undetected, uninsured or undisclosed environmental liabilities, and they have experience with every major federal environmental statute and several state law counterparts, as well as a number of international treaties. The firm provides counsel in connection with civil and criminal environmental enforcement defense, general regulatory compliance, internal investigations, government information requests and grand jury subpoena demands, search warrants, administrative rulemakings, mergers and acquisitions, permitting, cost recovery, toxic torts, citizens’ suits and the design and implementation of environmental management systems.
